Marry for Purpose & watch the fireworks
The Fourth, Independence Day, we celebrate it every year. Family gatherings, grilling out, and parades are common activities on this early July day, but when we think of The Fourth, what is the one thing that most commonly comes to mind: fireworks?
As a young rowdy, The Fourth with all things exploding, was the high point of my summer. When the sun began to set I was busy lining up my bottle rockets, Roman candles, and an assortment of roadside fireworks. Oh, to be a kid again!
I've also seen my share of huge fireworks displays, as I'm sure you have, too. They have gotten more sophisticated and impressive as the years pass. This year, we sat in our lawn chairs among our neighbors, taking in yet another colorful assault into the dark skies. A thought came to mind as I was anticipating the next launch; each of these explosions holds something glorious: design. The collective pattern of single explosives within a large, the volume of the boom factor, and the color scheme all play a part in the glory of one single firework. The ooo’s and awes of being impressed follow each unique display.
Have you ever thought how long the glory of a single firework lasts in our memory? Only until the next one goes off, am I right? After a few seconds of being stunned the glory passes in anticipation of the next one to come. I see that same behavior in us when the pursuit of happily ever after is something we make happen for ourselves. We will celebrate for only a few seconds then the next idea that pops up gets all our attention.
Last year's World Series winner is old news because there's a new champion. Who had the number-one hit song in 1979. Who cares? Andy Warhol’s staple and pop art moment is noticed for saying that celebrities will get their 15 minutes of fame, which sounds about right. However, those who are living out divine dreams and purposes for their lives won't burn and be forgotten like a flash on the fourth. Even when they're gone, some form of legacy will be left for others to glean life and truth from.
Elements of divine substance will go on when your purpose comes from heaven. It’s staying power multiplies when purpose flows collectively from a married couple who received their orders from heaven. The Bible instructs us to be equally yoked, two Christians going in the same direction for the same purposes. The single season is the divine time to learn your purpose with Christ which will make your discernment of His choice in marriage that much more obvious to you both. Not to mention your singleness will have been worth the wait because it will have been full with Christ discovering and working toward those purposes. Personally, I experienced what it was like to be rich in my spirit and life as a single which is exactly what God is wanting for every single, walking into marriage already a rich man or woman with so much to give from.
It’s more glorious than any “firework” of excitement you can create without Him.
