June 1st
June 2023
June 1st marks a revolutionary day for the two of us. June 1st is the day God chose to reveal to Gary that I was His choice for him.
I wish I could tell you he melted before me at that moment, swept me off my feet, and carried me to the altar for “I do’s” before the sunset. He did not and I had no idea what had transpired between him and our Creator on that faith-filled night in 2017.
Most of you are familiar with our story. Gary and I had been friends for four years. Both of us were dedicated to God’s desires for our marital wishes. We were both well-developed in our faith when we met, we knew who we were for the Lord and were willing to die unmarried if God were to change His mind on what He told each of us separately decades earlier.
Of course, God doesn’t change His mind, He is faithful to His words to us. We both knew God had spoken about His desire to match us when we were young adults. However, He did leave out His timeline. Which was best for Him because if either of us knew ahead of time the length of the wait with God we would have fainted. God is brilliant like that; giving us just enough for the next step and not too much to freak us out.
June 1st, 2017 would have been the day He chose to make all things new in our friendship of four years. He knew we would be doing what we liked to do the most: attending a live rock show. He knew it would be loud and overcrowded. He knew neither of us would be expecting His interruption. When we were least expecting a life-changing revelation He did it anyway, right in the middle of a rock concert.
It would be four more days before Gary would tell me what God revealed to him and in turn four years of guarding my answer to God asking me if I would take him as my husband. God decided when the time would be right. God decided where the place would be right. Not just for Him and not just for us but for everyone who would hear our love story for generations to come.
We saw His time and place also being important for someone other than ourselves the following Spring. Gary and I were officiating a friend’s wedding. We were introduced to a young Marine who asked to hear our story. He was fixed on every word until we told him when and where God revealed me to Gary and he burst with sudden enthusiasm to see God will do the impossible in the most unreligious of places. His faith in God hit an all-time high at the telling of our love story.
We are going to revisit our love story on our social media platforms this month. We want you to be encouraged that God does not need your help in finding someone to marry. He is eternal and already standing inside your future marriage. He knows the one you’re waiting for and has the right time and place to see the impossible come true for you too. Keep in mind as you live out your faith in Him concerning your love story He is also writing it with others in mind, others who will need to hear and believe Him more.
